August 8th

We continued our journey by land, towing our boats ten miles along the shore. In the afternoon we came to a town called Hora or Hosköy Our boats could go no further as the wind was too strong and the sea too rough. We stayed the night there.

Here and especially at the previous town, there are a lot of cornfields and vineyards as well as quantities of silkworms. A jug of wine is a penny. However the inhabitants are very poor because the Turks oppress them, taxing the fruit of the poor people's labour.

The area we travelled through, opposite Troy, where we left our ship, is Thrace, where Constantinople is situated.
